Maintenance on otoplastics
Maintenance on otoplastics
Ears change
The shape and size of the auricle and ear canal are constantly changing. This phenomenon naturally affects custom-made ear products such as otoplastics. After a few years, otoplastics seal the ear canals less, causing increasing leakage and an increasing risk of hearing damage. This is a gradual process.
Due to a habituation effect, the wearer often does not notice the leakage himself. The speed of this process is also completely person-dependent and varies between wearers. To ensure the necessary hearing protection, it is therefore crucial to have otoplastics tested at least annually for leak-tightness and to take new ear impressions as soon as a leak is detected.
The importance of correct attenuation
Tympro's otoplastics feature specialised noise filters whose attenuation has been precisely determined based on noise and personal preferences. Over time, earwax and other debris can clog or even damage the inner structure and filters of the earplugs. As a result, attenuation gradually increases and the wearer loses spatiality and speech understanding. Otoplastics with ‘overprotection’ are worn less (gladly). Thereby, performing a leakage test on otoplastics with a blockage or internal defect is useless as the equipment will always consider these otoplastics to be leakproof. To ensure correct attenuation and to make a leak test legitimate, it is therefore important to perform a maintenance on the internal structure of otoplastics.
Annual maintenance
The online Tympro Portal automatically indicates which otoplastics are eligible for maintenance. Based on this, our inside sales department makes an appointment with the customer for periodic maintenance. For this, our product specialist comes on site for a 5-minute consultation per user. He enters into a dialogue with the user. He then performs a thorough internal and external cleaning, replaces the noise filter and readjusts the attenuation of the otoplastics. Finally, a leak tightness test will determine whether the otoplastics seal properly. The specialist will make new impressions only in case of a leak or defect.
